What do
we mean by learning?
Learning is different from training in a number of ways. The first
is the focus. In a training class the focus is on the instructor
and what they are doing. In Learning the focus is on the
learner. Learners are actively engaged in getting what they need
to be able to do what they need to do better. Learners are
invested in the process learning and understand that the investment will
yield results.
What do we mean by plus?
The plus is to indicate that this is really more than just Learning.
It’s more than training people. Imbedded in this program are a
process and a way of thinking about performance improvement that is
holistic. It does deal with the way learning can contribute to
improved performance in any organization but it is more than that.
There is also a part of the process that helps identify the things -
like systems, processes and procedures - that are having a negative
impact on performance that can’t be fixed with learning. It also
starts the discussion around culture, history and organizational myths
and how they impact on performance.
